Tim (born in 1959 so you do the math!) is the Old in Old Hat and began playing guitar when he was 19. He sang with several different quartets and as his children began to get older he began to think more about playing and singing with them. They started doing some stuff together and in the spring of 2005 when the last quartet he had been in dissolved, he decided to work with the kids. That summer at a late night jam he picked up a stand-up bass for the first time and really enjoyed it. He began to look around for one (they are hard to come by) and finally purchased one from Frank Ray in Missouri (who is with Cedar Hill and got to know the Lorentzen family that summer at the Cross Ranch Festival) Frank left the bass in Spearfish SD with an old friend of Tim's and on September 11 2005 he drove down and picked it up. He has been having a great time playing and is looking forward to many years of playing with his children. Now Jasper has begun playing the bass mostly so it is back to the guitar for Tim.
